Vision
The Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems within the School of Computing at the College of Computing will recruit its first class of students in 2025. It is a newly established department on the Sinchon campus, created to proactively educate students in the field of artificial intelligence systems, which comprehensively covers both artificial intelligence— a core technology for future societies— and the systems that drive it. The cutting-edge areas of artificial intelligence, central to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, include not only AI models and applications such as super-large AI and generative AI, but also computer system technologies that require a deep understanding of both software and hardware, such as on-device AI and AI semiconductors. In line with these technological trends, the Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems aims to train world-class professionals who are well-versed in both artificial intelligence and computer systems.
Research Areas
The research areas of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems focus on the convergence of artificial intelligence and computer systems. Building upon an understanding of various AI models and algorithms, such as machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision, the department develops technologies to optimize the performance of AI models and operate them efficiently. Additionally, to effectively run AI models, research is conducted on the infrastructure of AI systems, including high-performance computing, cloud computing, and distributed learning systems, based on computer architecture, operating systems, compilers, and system programming. The department also addresses the latest technological trends, such as generative AI, on-device AI, and AI semiconductors, driving innovative technological advancements through the integration of AI and computer systems. Key research areas also include neural processing units for AI system optimization, quantization and neural architecture search, as well as distributed inference and learning systems. These diverse research efforts will contribute to strengthening the country's scientific and technological competitiveness and create tangible value across various industries.
